NZR IB class container wagon
Prototype:
The IB class container wagons were introduced from 1992 by New Zealand Rail. They were built at the Hillside Workshops in Dunedin. They were an evolution of the IA class container wagons, introduced in 1990. The wagons were a significant increase in size and capacity on previous container wagons - the IB class wagons can carry up to three 6m long (20ft) ISO shipping containers, versus the standard two on UK, HK and IA class container wagons.
In 1998, 20 wagons were sold by Tranz Rail to TasRail (then part-owned by Tranz Rail). These wagons had minimal modifications in Tassie service and have even continued to carry their inter-island ferry tie-down hooks!
The IB class were further developed into the IC class, of similar design but with several improvements.
This wagon is printed in aluminium, so lead times will be a bit longer than usual.
The design is available in S (1:64), HO (1:87) and NZ120 (1:120) scales, designed to be used with NZR type 18B bogies.
End stanchions, Kadee couplers and handbrake detail are also included.
Measurements (lwh):
NZ120 (1:120): 166.54mm x21.37mm x 11.12mm
HOnz (1:87): 229.70mm x 29.48mm x 15.34mm
OO scale (1:76): 262.95mm x 33.74mm x 17.56mm
S scale (1:64): 312.25mm x 40.07mm x 20.85mm
