NZR IA class container wagon
Prototype:
The IA class container wagon was introduced by New Zealand Rail from 1990 to 1991. They were an evolution of the HK class container wagons, introduced in 1988, and the earlier UK class container wagons. Slightly longer than a UK class wagon, the IA class are able to carry significantly heavier containers (total load weight 56 tonnes versus 43 tonnes on a UK class wagon) and has a correspondingly higher axle load. 120 wagons were built in total at Hillside workshops in Dunedin.
The IA class were also the basis of the underframes of the VRB class temperature-controlled wagons.
Model:
This wagon is printed in aluminium, so lead times will be a bit longer than usual.
The design is available in S (1:64) and HO (1:87) scale, designed to be used with NZR type 18 bogies (there is a NZ120 version available from
Measurements (lwh):
NZ120: 139.350mm long x 20.08 wide x 5.45 high
HOnz: 192.21mm x 27.71 x 7.53
S: 261.2mm x 37.67 × 10.24
