The FB class log wagon was introduced in 1992 to carry much longer (12m) logs for export. Originally classified FL, 100 wagons were ordered, but only 75 were manufactured before a design change to allow shorter logs, which resulted in the FC class (which made up the remainder of the order at 25 wagons).
In 1996, 20 of the FB wagons were converted to the OM class milk wagons. A further 45 wagons were converted in 1997, with the last 10 wagons being converted in 1998.
