Tranz Rail DQ class locomotive - HOnz - coming soon
The DQ class locomotive was introduced by Tranz Rail in 1996. The DQ class were rebuilt Queensland Railways 1502 and 1460 class locomotives, which had been purchased by Tranz Rail (then New Zealand Rail) in 1995. In addition, a number of the Queensland locomotives ran in New Zealand with only a few modifications and were classified QR.
A number of the DQ and QR locomotives were then re-exported to Tasmania for TasRail, which was then part-owned by Tranz Rail. Eventually, the DQs and QRs were withdrawn from New Zealand, although some are still in use in Tasmania and other parts of the world.
The design is HO scale (1:87). It has been re-designed to fit the commercially available Queensland Rail 1460 and 1502 class locomotives now available in 16.5mm and 12mm gauges.
